David joins us following a legendary career as an award-winning journalist for the Los Angeles Times (1982–2025). Over the decades, he has covered everything from the Persian Gulf War to nine Olympic Games, providing him with a rare, world-class perspective on elite athletic performance.

An Emmy nominee and author of two books—including the acclaimed USC football chronicle Conquest—David’s work has been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors and featured in Best American Sports Writing.

Despite his storied career in global sports media, David’s true passion has always been fencing. He now brings that lifelong dedication and his analytical expertise to our strips, helping our foilists master the technical and mental aspects of the game.
